Audrey Hepbern

"I was born with an enourmous
need for affection and a terrible
                                                      need to give it"
                                                      A.Hepbern

Have you ever wondered that Audrey Hepburn was not only an actress and a fashion icon? The aim of my article is to show how a tender and beautiful lady can make great deeds to humanity. This story  might inspire you to do miracles too!

Audrey Kathleen Ruston(Hepburn) was born in Brussels and spend her childhood between Belguim, England and Netherlands. After the Second World War she studied ballet in Amsterdam. And 3 years later her career as an actress began. During this time Hepburn received such honourable awards like the Golden Globe,Academy Award  for the Best Female role in my  favourite "Roman Holidays”, BAFTA Award for Best British Actress in a Leading Role 3 times. She was a very talented not only in dancing, but also in vocal. Audrey enjoyed her job and gave all energy to her heroines.

Now I’d like to say some words about her private life.

Hepburn had lots of lovers, but was married only twice. Her first husband was  American actor Mel Ferrer. They lived together for 14 years. Through this period Audrey had 2 miscarriages, so Sean Hepburn Ferrer was a beloved son in their family. Her second man was Italian psychiatrist Andrea Dotti, whom she married at the age of 40.This love gave birth to Lucca Dotti, another son of the famous actress. Dotti-Hepburn marriage lasted 13 years. But the happiest time she had with an actor Robert Wolders. They lived together in love and peace for 9 years till her death.

A big part of Audrey’s life was devoted to humanitarian work for UNICEF. She appeared in fewer films as her life went on, devoting much of her time to helping children. Greatful for her own good fortune after enduring the German occupation as a child, she dedicated the remainder of her life to helping impoverished people from the poorest nations. Her travels were easier by knowledge of English,Dutch,Italian,French. While the charity work Audrey visited

Ethiopia,Turkey,Venezuela, Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador,Guatemala,Sudan,Bangladesh,Vietnam. She really loved mankind and children, trying to do her utmost to make life of weak and little people a bit better.John Isaac,a UN photographer said:"Often kids would have flies all over them, but she would just hug them.I had never seen it before."Hepburn was appointed Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF.The President of United States George H.W.Bush presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of her work with UNICEF.

Four months before death she went to Somalia, where you could see graves almost everywhere. Upon returning home, Audrey Hepburn began suffering abdominal pains. Doctors discovered that cancer had spread from her appendix, and it was impossible to cure it. So,after the numerous operations her family decided to take her home to celebrate the last Christmas in her life. Hepburn's best friend Hubert de Givenchy arranged his Gulfstream jet full of flowers to take her to Switzerland. In the evening of 20 January 1993 she died in her sleep.

In my opinion, this woman is worth admiring.
Everyone loved her not  only for her talent, but also
for an ability to make a difference,  helping  people
in need. Such people, who confronted many
advetisies themselves and still have strength to
share your life with others, are legends.
