Apocalypse 2012: Do you believe?

"Never let a good crisis go to waste!”

We humans adore a good scare. Do you remember the boom about total solar eclipse, which happened on August 11th 1999? And how about Y2K-problem (year 2 kilos)? Here we can add Global warming, cataclysmic Earth's pole shift, the Third World War, Antichrist's coming, alien invasion and many other sometimes humorous examples. If you spend a couple of minutes on the Internet you could get about 50 concrete dates of the Doomsday! And none of these predictions haven’t met expectations and associated rumors.

And how about today? We’re on the precipice of  great changes: there will be the end of days on December 21st 2012. That’s the date when the "connoisseurs” are saying that the world, as we know it, will end. Anyone who watches TV or reads news knows several possible ways of ending the world in 2012. Here are the most popular of them:

• The Mayan Calendar predication: the Mayans used something called a "Long Count” calendar which ends on the date December 21st 2012;

• Collision with a huge asteroid (e.g. the "Planet X”, which is actually named Nibiru, is supposed to crash into the Earth);

• The most powerful eruption of the volcano;

• The huge fault under Antarctica, the ablation of all ices, which cover the continent and, as a consequence, the Global flooding and the Global freezing;

• Technogenic super catastrophic crash connected with the nuclear reactor;

• Terrorist attack with the nuclear weapon;

• Formation of the Black hole in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and, as consequence, absorption of the Earth and all Solar system.

• Distribution of a deadly virus created by the methods of gene engineering;

• Unexpected flashes on the Sun, raising the energy of the light flows, which Earth receives, in hundred times and, as  a result, complete destruction of vegetation and biological life;

• Alien (UFO) intrusion and destruction of all human civilization;

• The computer super virus interfering with the nuclear weapon's management systems and the spontaneous start of nuclear rockets;

• The Doomsday – as result of the processes development caused by world financial and economic crisis.

There are over several hundred different books, articles, films about the end of the world scheduled for 2012. The huge money is made  on it! At least until December 21st 2012. Humans coupled with the fact that they like to spend a lot of money on things, which can feed their fears and panic. And people love when somebody shows them a validation of their spoof guesses and worries.

Doomsday… Believe it or not? I don’t. But you may have another point of view. Definitely, the end of the world (extinction of all life and planet’s death) will happen some day. Everything has its start and end. But it can happen in such long-term future that for humanity it would be better to deal with much more important and pressing issues, than thinking about the Doomsday.
