The book which I have read recently is called "Jamaica Inn" by Daphne du Maurier. This book was first published in 1936. The genre of this book is a romance. However, it was hard for me to call it a romance because it has some traits of an adventure.
The story is set in a small village Jamaica Inn. All people are afraid of this place because terrible things happen at night there. The central character of "Jamaica Inn" is Mary Yellen a young woman of 23. She lives all her life in a tranquil village but when her mother dies she sets off to live with her mother's sister. The most important thing which Mary has to know that aunt's husband is a smuggler. The book is about Mary's adventures and also you will find a love story in this book.
What did Daphne du Maurier want to say by writing this romance? First of all , this book was written after Daphne's father's death. It had a big impact on her and she decided to write such a book. Secondly, when she was a child she loved to read adventure books like " Treasure island" and she wanted to create something similar as well.
I really loved this book , even though sometimes it was difficult for understanding. I think people , who like criminal stories mixed with love line, will probably like it.
