One of my favourite book is "Children of the Arbat” by A. Rybakov.
The genre of this book is a historical novel. The author describes people’s lives during 1929-1945. This period is a terrible time of Stalin’s terror and repressions.
One of the main characters is Alexander. He’s a young promising man. But because of an absurd incident all his life goes to pieces. He gets to prison and then he is exiled to Siberia for 3 years. A lot of events happen to his parents and friends during his absence. Some of them adapt to new conditions, some don’t. But all of them can’t be free in their thoughts. They have to think about what they say and with whom they communicate.
3 years passed since Alex comes back from the exile and he realizes that he has no love, no friends and no future.
"Children of the Arbat” is a thrilling book full of sad facts from the history of our country.
